Star Wars: The Last Jedi | Trailer Breakdown
The latest in Star Wars trailers were released this past week, both the new Star Wars Battlefront 2 trailer and the teaser for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The latter taking the full liberty of the phrase teaser.
Opening with breathing from Rey (Daisy Ridley) before showing her clutching the ground in what we can assume is her training under her new teacher Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill -duh), the trailer gives us plenty to look at without telling us much.
This actually works well with how The Force Awakens ended. Rey was just beginning to understand her power with The Force, and the vagueness of her training leaves us to discover it along with her.

Hard cut to General Leia looking at a holo map, a quick glimpse of Kylo Ren’s destroyed mask, and ancient text with the Jedi Symbol on them ending with Rey training with a blue lightsaber. The rest of the trailer is very fast paced with little context, quick shots of unspecified ships racing across a desert, Finn in what could be a stasis pod or medical device of some kind, Poe running and his X- Wing being destroyed, the Millennium Falcon being awesome. All fun shots to look at without telling us a whole lot.
Then we see some quick shots of things that make you think. Rey running with the light of an activated lightsaber and what looks like a more in-depth shot of what we saw in Force Awakens; the destruction of Luke’s School. With these images, we get to wonder if we’ll learn or even see what actually happened when Ben Solo turned against Luke.
Captain Phasma makes a very short appearance, and we are then shown the absolutely required space battle. Ultimately the trailer ends with a shot of Luke Skywalker saying “It is time for the Jedi to end.” A little context is given, and whether or not this is a distraught Luke initially declining Rey's request to train her before changing his mind, or if this is the new end goal for Luke we have no idea. Either way, they had my curiosity, but now they have my attention, and I will be sure to find out this holiday season.
