Costner should win an Oscar for this Best Director introduction.

Ryley Trahan's avatar

Will Smith just walked up on stage and sucker punched Chris Rock live on stage.

Ryley Trahan's avatar

Zack Snyder walking away with both Audience choice awards.

Ryley Trahan's avatar

Wait, we’re those just the nominees? I’m so confused about this whole ceremony.

Ryley Trahan's avatar

Screenplay awards go to Bellfast and CODA. Guessing CODA has Picture secured at this point.

Ryley Trahan's avatar

We don’t talk about Bruno, though.

Deepak's avatar

CODA wins its first of the night -- Troy Kotsur for Supporting Actor, as expected.

Deepak's avatar

Ryley -- you thought Power of the Dog would pull through here?

Ryley Trahan's avatar

The Kotsur late-phase rally had been like a force of nature! Curious what we’re to make of Best Pictute at this point.

Deepak's avatar

And Dune won Cinematography. That's six.

Deepak's avatar

Crazy that a movie can be the best in six different categories but apparently not be one of the five best-directed movies of the year.

Deepak's avatar

Encanto wins Animated Feature.

Ryley Trahan's avatar

Deepak. I’m gonna need a through review of this Bond montage.

Deepak's avatar

I'll catch it on YouTube tomorrow. Remind me.

Deepak's avatar

Dune wins VFX. That's now five awards on the night.

Ryley Trahan's avatar

Fucking disgusting that they just played that crew off. So now we’re cutting awards and playing off anyone who isn’t famous.

Deepak's avatar

Is it broom time?

Ryley Trahan's avatar

Dune is going to win best picture.

Deepak's avatar

Will it into existence. I'm down for it.

Deepak's avatar

I'm regretting not picking it for Cinematography. Seems like a foregone conclusion now. Might even pick up Costume, too. And VFX is a given.

This could be a big night. I like chaos.

Ryley Trahan's avatar

Oh it just won. That’s why I said it.

Ryley Trahan's avatar

Okay. So they’re showing the speech for Dune winning sound. But it’s pre-recorded I think?

Deepak's avatar

Ariana DeBose wins Supporting Actress, as expected.

Deepak's avatar

That now marks the third time different actors have won Oscars for playing the same character. The other two, Ryley?

Ryley Trahan's avatar

Joker and Corleone! Good speech. Deserved win. But this ceremony feels weird already.

Deepak's avatar

Glad I'm not watching.

Ryley Trahan's avatar

Oh good. Now DJ Khaled is here yelling about something.

Ryley Trahan's avatar

Beyoncé opens with the song from King Richard, from the tennis court in Compton. Cool. Would’ve liked to see the acceptance speech for Animated Short though.

Deepak's avatar

There's a chance AMPAS really loves King Richard and it walks away with Song, Actor, and Original Screenplay. Don't think so, but I'm already only hitting .500.

Deepak's avatar

Ok, and now we're all caught up.

Deepak's avatar

Just a reminder: this is the year that the Oscars have relegated several categories to a pre-show ceremony that's already happening. So here's to catch us all up on what we've missed:

Deepak's avatar

Dune has won: Best Editing, Best Production Design, Best Score (Hans Zimmer), and Best Sound.

Deepak's avatar

The Eyes of Tammy Faye won Best Makeup. I think this confirms Jessica Chastain to win Best Actress.

Best Live-Action Short went to The Long Goodbye, which I believe makes Riz Ahmed an Oscar-winner. Best Doc Short went to The Queen of Basketball, and Best Animated Short went to The Windshield Wiper.
